Towards a Linguistics of AI

Cinnamonlab is a computational linguistics research group at Boston University led by Sophie Hao. Cinnamonlab takes an interdisciplinary approach to language model interpretability and its applications, incorporating ideas and perspectives from across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Our goal is to develop a linguistics of AI language models.

Cinnamonlab is affiliated with the Department of Linguistics, the Faculty of Computing and Data Sciences, and the SALAMI Consortium.

Research

Our research focuses on six thematic areas: analysis of representations, linguistic evaluation, theory of architectures, theoretical linguistics, AI and society, and foundations of computational linguistics.
